Teaching practice

As a part of our B.Ed. program, I had the opportunity to undertake teaching practice at meenakshi vilasom school punthalathazhm , Kollam, under the supervision of sunitha miss. During this first week of teaching practice, I conducted classes for 8th c and 8th A, following the school timetable assigned to us. I began teaching from the first chapters of the respective subjects, which allowed me to interact with students and understand their learning levels from the very beginning.

During this period, I primarily used lecture method, storytelling, and discussion-based approaches to deliver lessons. Conducting these classes helped me practice explaining concepts clearly, maintaining student attention, and managing classroom interactions effectively. I also adjusted my teaching based on student responses, which strengthened my understanding of different learning styles and classroom dynamics.

This week also highlighted areas where I needed improvement. Maintaining discipline with larger groups was sometimes challenging, and I had to work on sustaining student attention throughout the lesson. My voice modulation and questioning techniques required refinement to ensure better participation. I realized that balancing explanations with examples and stories helped students understand and retain information more effectively.

On June 25, we concluded the first phase of teaching practice to return to college for the third semester university examinations. Before leaving, I reported to the school staff and Headmaster regarding my completion of the assigned classes and responsibilities. This first phase was a valuable and new experience in my teaching journey, providing practical insights and boosting my confidence in handling real classroom situations. During this time of teaching practice I had my first observation class of our own department HOD in the 8th c class. It was an enjoyable and rewarding experience that gave me a glimpse into professional teaching life and laid the foundation for the next phase of my internship.
